About Asantewa Disroe
Asantewa Disroe, Motivational Speaker

I am a 16-year-old poet, dancer, writer, visual artist, photographer, and motivational speaker. I think that every young girl has the ability to do amazing things, no matter where she comes from or what she has been through. My organization, Homegirls 4 Eva, is meant to encourage young girls achieve their fullest potential by creating a positive environment that helps them to set goals and achieve them.

My mother is constantly encouraging, motivating, inspiring, and pushing me to achieve my very best. Sometimes I think all that attention is really annoying, but when I meet young girls that need and want the things that my mother provides for me, I know how truly blessed I am.

Joining my organization gives you a support team of other girls that truly want you to achieve your dreams, and that are willing to motivate you, inspire you, and nuture your talents, whatever they may be. I welcome positive girls of all colors and backgrounds!

My Background

Because have been performing poetry in dozens of locations over the course of twelve years (I performed for the first time at four), public speaking comes easily to me. I have been a cheerleader at both my junior high and high school. I have won scholarships worth $4,000, and have been a participant of many positive poetry network groups. As Homegirl Number One, I make a pledge to use all my talents to help other girls achieve their goals. The purpose of this website is to be a forum to maintain a cohesive network together of girls that help each other deal with problems that we are facing in school and at home.

As the daughter of a well-known poet in the DC/Maryland area, the High Priestess of Poetry (Abena Disroe), it's no surprise that I have been writing poetry since I was six years old. I perform under the name "The Poetic Princess". I have graced the mic at several venues in the District of Columbia area, Maryland, Virginia, and St. Louis Missouri. I have performed at the Market Lounge, Children's Studio School, Garrison Elementary School, Barnes and Noble DC (as the youngest poet in the lineup), Euphoria Restaurant, Bintumani Restaurant, Martin Luther King Jr. DC Public Library, the 3rd Annual Black Doll Show (held at Union Station) Starbucks (where I received 3rd place and a monetary award) Iverson Mall, U Turn restaurant, and many other locations. I also opened up the Children's Showcase at the 3rd Annual Spoken Word Expo in St. Louis.

As a dancer, I have performed with the Dance Institute of Washington, as a 2001-2002 recipient of a scholarship with "The Dance Theater of Harlem" through he Kennedy Center of Performing Arts.

My future goal is to become an engineer that designs cars.
